Meet Angie

Angie Hernandez, MA, LPC, NCC, IPT-CST, TCYM

Hi, my name is Angélica Hernández and I go by Angie (she/her). I’m a queer, Latina, BIPOC therapist based in Austin, TX and the owner of Belonging Counseling. I specialize working with BIPOC x LGBTQA+ adults and couples who reside in Texas.

Some things about me: I was raised in the Rio Grande Valley of south Texas (puro 956) and currently live in Austin with my spouse. I’m a parent of one, and if time and energy allows, I like reading books, riding my bike, trying new foods/recipes, and watching k-dramas. If time and energy doesn’t allow, I like to lay on the couch and contemplate my life choices.

Values in our work

Social Justice. As a BIPOC therapist, I center a social justice, identity-affirming, all body acceptance, sex-positive, and harm reduction approach in our work because I believe it’s the way to our collective healing. One facet of our overall health is mental health and I advocate to acknowledge the impact of oppression, intergenerational & systemic trauma on it.

Authenticity. I started this work for myself. I am a first-generation Mexican-American from a border town in the RGV. I grew up in an immigrant family and a “keep it in the family/entre la familia y dios” culture. I started this mental health journey seeking my own healing and growth. And I’ll be transparent when I say that journey kicked my ass. I aim to show up as an authentic person in the room with you and part of that is being transparent about my experience.

Courage. I won’t lie, our work can be uncomfortable and challenging. It may take lots of courage and vulnerability from us. And it would be my honor to show up in that space with you. I recognize how much it takes for us to show up and undo generational curses, and I am so glad you’re here. Welcome.
